20 daily habits for successful people you should take on today

Updated: Apr 21, 2022

"You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret behind your success can be found in your daily routine." - John C. Maxwell

Just as the way a website is created can work wonders for a corporate image, daily habits can change your life for the better. That is, by improving your ability to succeed, your mood and your health.

Like most things in life, daily habits require discipline and commitment. According to a recent study, it takes 18+ days to form a new habit. Ready to go on this journey with full force? Then you will not miss the advice below.

Here we have listed 20 daily habits for successful people:

01. Wake up early

A Harvard Business Review study found that "people whose performance peaks in the morning are better positioned for career success." If you start the day early, you can use more of it for your performance goals, and have more time for a successful routine. This can be a trip to the gym, a daily meditation, an attentive breakfast or another of the mentioned daily habits of successful people below.

02. Do a short digital detox

For most of us, the first thing we do when we wake up is look at our phones. A few missed calls or text messages, an Instagram feed scroll, and then we're on our job emails. How do you feel? You have barely breathed a few breaths, and you are already thinking about work or experiencing a mixture of jealousy, FOMO and work.

Allowing yourself to wait at least 30 minutes after waking up before checking your phone will help you ease into the day and choose for yourself how you want it. That is, instead of how your friends or colleagues on social media make you feel. By using an old-fashioned alarm clock instead of your smartphone, imagine the unlimited possibilities you can start the day with.

03. Start the day with soothing music

Unlike the scene from the movie Office Space where Michael Bolton raps on the way to work, music should put you in a calming or productive mood. Use it as a way to wake up, lighten up in the day with some thoughtless, soothing sounds, and see if your mood starts to improve. We are sure it will do so immediately with the right mix!

04. Have a morning workout routine

To keep your mind active, you also need to keep your body active. The morning is the ultimate time to wake up your muscles, either through a little stretching, cardio or a combination of these. In addition, you may end up dropping that morning cup of coffee when you see how energetic this makes you feel.

05. Eat a healthy breakfast

Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day. This is the optimal time to consume the most calories as well, since you need to stay energetic throughout the day. The most important include healthy carbohydrates, proteins and fats. So make it a priority not to skip this important meal.

06. Meditation

Meditation is the practice of training your attention and consciousness and calming your mind by pulling the focus away from thoughts that cloud your judgment. Even just 10 to 15 minutes each morning can have a huge impact on your day. As a digital detox, it lets you get away from the hustle and bustle of life to cope with your day with much easier.

07. Keep a daily journal

Keeping a journal can easily become a productive habit. It can allow you to slow down and reflect on your day, set goals for yourself and grow into a more successful person. An example we have tried is "Morning Pages", an assignment from the book The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron. It involves clearing the mind of conscious morning thoughts on three handwritten pages to clear it of cluttered thoughts and start the day with focus and clarity.

08. Practice gratitude

It is no secret that happy people are more successful people. And according to a Harvard Medical School study on positive psychology, gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. How do you do it? You can write your gifts of grace in a diary, say them out loud, pray, meditate or choose your own path. There are many ways to do this, and none of them are wrong.

09. Choose three goals to prioritize daily

Our to-do lists are often hefty, and we end our days feeling incomplete, since we have never come to the end with a completed one. If that's the case for you, try to reshape this mentality by focusing on just three of these tasks each day. Then grab these items first.

If other tasks appear before you have had the chance to complete them, know that sometimes it's okay to just say 'no'. You only have so much time in one day, and you need to focus on getting ahead, instead of dealing with distractions. Consider delegating the less important tasks to someone else who is able to help improve your productivity.

10. Read up on your industry

Whether you choose to set up a Google Alert for specific keywords, subscribe to a handful of your favorite newsletters, or change your favorite blog, it's important to stay up to date. This will allow you to keep up with current and major topics, such as marketing trends, graphic design trends and photography trends.

11. Consume motivational content

Often we are so engrossed in our daily chores that we are far from future-focused. Yet the most successful people (from small business owners to CEOs of large companies) always envision that their dreams and ambitions come true. It's fun, it's satisfying, and therefore definitely worth doing, and of course a key ingredient in entrepreneurship. If you are not sure what these are for yourself, consider listening to some motivational podcasts, reading inspirational blogs or other types of encouraging content.

12. Surround yourself with optimistic people

We have all heard a version of the saying, "you are a combination of the people you surround yourself with the most." That's actually true! It is known that people influence each other's moods. If you spend the day complaining about your workload with your colleagues, you will not feel good about yourself.

If your closest companions are genuinely happy and excited, this will surely infect you. And when you're at your best, it can only increase your chances of success at work and in other parts of your life.

13. Block out "fake meetings" in your calendar

Set aside time in your calendar to keep busy or to focus on specific tasks. This will ensure that no one is planning a meeting with you during these hours. It will also allow you to have time to actually get the job done, instead of replying to a boatload of emails and attending meetings all day. Similarly, try to make sure that when you host or attend them, you run effective meetings that value everyone's time and input.

14. Pencil in time to relax

Of course, it is important to be productive, but you should also allow your brain and body time to recharge. Consider setting up relaxing moments as small rewards throughout the day. For example, try focusing for one hour, then spend five minutes reading an inspirational article or taking a short walk and taking a nap. This will prevent burnout and enable you to think more clearly throughout the day.

15. Be more health conscious

Healthy living has a huge impact on your daily life, from your ability to focus to your level of overall energy to whether you are able to perform your best or not. In addition to your food choices, health also has to do with your sleep plan, your stress level and much more. If you are not sure you know how to act, consider working with a health coach, reading up on the latest health trends, or even just drinking a sufficient amount of water every day and exercising.

16. Move your body through the day

So maybe you have found that you simply do not have time to exercise before or after work. There is still no excuse for moving. In fact, taking five minutes here and there during the day for brisk walks or stretching sessions will make you more productive the moment you return. You can even go to conference calls if you can not find another moment away from work. Not only will this make you more successful, but this is one of the many ways to unwind while working.

17. Keep your space organized and clean

A clean room coincides with a clean mind. From the office desk to your home, you are more likely to feel productive and tidy if you do not sort through the clutter and clutter. Set aside time each day to do the dishes, wipe off the dusty keyboard, and organize your space and to-do list. This only takes a few minutes, and it's guaranteed to boost your productivity. In addition, it is worth having a weekly habit of doing a deep cleaning of your room as well.

18. Be social more often

Taking the time to have a coffee or lunch with colleagues, go out of your way to attend work-based networking events or chat with a friend you have not talked to in a while can work wonders for both your mood and your overall success. Whether the topics surround work or fun, this is far from a "waste of time" with office talk as you might think and contributes to a positive corporate culture.

First, making friends will allow you to trust others, enjoy your job more, and, if necessary, have a support system that helps you deal with overwhelming tasks. And on the other hand, our world functions in a way where more often than not opportunities arise from who we know, over what we are capable of.

19. Set aside time for self-care

Whether it's a face mask, a cup of chamomile, taking a few deep breaths or ordering the occasional massage, self-care is extremely important to your health. You owe it to your general well-being to take your time and love yourself. It can be as short as five minutes a day where you also treat yourself - but let's be honest, the more the better.

20. Sleep long enough

Among the daily habits of successful people, this is one of the most important. Sleep is the healthiest thing we can do for ourselves. Without enough sleep, you will not only feel burnout, but you will continue to work slower and slower. Imagine the impact this will have on your ability to be productive. Sleep helps us reset like nothing else. Most adults require a healthy dose of 7-9 hours of sleep per night.
